Visiting Faversham

Take a step back in time through the historic market town of Faversham in Kent. From the arcaded, neoclassical Guildhall in the heart of the Market Place, to the former royal lodge, Maison Dieu, commissioned by Henry III in 1234, this gorgeous town - a corporate limb of the Cinque Port Confederation that was a crucial part of England’s naval defence for centuries - is brimming with historical interest.

Boasting Kent’s longest running market and Britain’s oldest brewery (that’s us!), Faversham was also at the heart of the UK’s explosives industry in the late 19th and early 20th century with the old gunpowder works now open to visitors in the Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park to the west of the town.
